Kimi Antonelli has massively extended his championship lead after winning the Canadian Grand Prix, while team-mate and rival George Russell suffered a costly retirement.

Antonelli now sits a mammoth 45 points clear of Russell in the standings after taking his fourth successive grand prix win.

In the constructors’ championship, Mercedes is still well out of reach of the rest of the competition despite a retirement for one of its drivers.

It was a big day for Alpine, who scored a sixth and an eighth in the race as it continues its strong start to the season.
