Felix Rosenqvist won the 110th Indy 500 in a thrilling photo-finish with David Malukas in the closest-ever finish.
The race boiled down to a one-lap shootout after a late Caio Collet crash on Lap 194, with five laps of caution after a red flag.
On the final lap restart, Malukas roared into the lead into Turn 1 as Marcus Armstrong and Rosenqvist battled for second, side-by-side, but using the high-line, Rosenqvist got momentum heading out of Turn 4.
He slingshotted out of the final corner and pipped Malukas to the line by 0.018s – the closest finish in the history of the 500.
The race had been boiling down to a showdown between Rosenqvist and McLaren’s Pato O’Ward, running an alternate fuel strategy before Caio Collet’s fiery accident on Lap 192 triggered a second red flag of the race, after earlier rain.
Malukas was part of a gaggle of cars, including Alex Palou and Scott McLaughlin on the more conventional fuel strategy, but was 18s behind the leading pair before Collet’s accident reset the race.
It then boiled down to the final 2.5-miles, where Rosenqvist became the second Meyer Shank Racing driver to win the 500, following Helio Castroneves in 2021.
Rosenqvist’s win is his first on an oval, and second of his career.
He is the third Swede to win the race after Kenny Brack and Marcus Ericsson.
