Alex Palou hit with penalty after thrilling Indy 500 finish

Cody Rhodes in

IndyCar has docked Alex Palou and his #10 Chip Ganassi team five points after a technical infringement at the Indy 500.

Palou finished in seventh place, just one second behind winner Felix Rosenqvist, who beat David Malukas to the line in a photo-finish for the closest-ever Indy 500 finish at just 0.0233s after a one-lap shootout following a late red flag.

Post-race, it was found that Palou’s front-wing failed the height measurement tests in scrutineering, and not measure less than 8.3000 inches when set at any angle.

However, the breach was found to be as the result of “an assembly error and not an intentional modification”, meaning the 2025 winner was not disqualified or received any time penalty.

Instead, he and the #10 Ganassi have been docked five points, and the team has earned a $10,000 fine.
