Aston Martin has been fined by the FIA for unsafely releasing Fernando Alonso into the pit lane during Q1 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The Spaniard, who qualified his Aston Martin in P19, was let out into the path of Alpine’s Franco Colapinto, with the stewards at the Canadian Grand Prix wanting to take a closer look after the grid-setting session had concluded.
Once the panel reviewed the evidence, the verdict was clear, and the Silverstone-based squad was subsequently penalised to the tune of a €5,000 fine.
The official decision document confirmed: “The Stewards heard from the team representative and reviewed position video and in-car video evidence.
“It was apparent that Car 43 had to swerve and locked the front wheels to avoid a collision with Car 14. This was determined by the Stewards to be an unsafe release.”
Lance Stroll, in the other AMR26, was also called to the stewards for two separate incidents during the grid-setting session in Montreal.
