Max Verstappen has responded to the fierce criticism levelled at him by former F1 driver-turned-pundit, Juan Pablo Montoya.
After the Miami Grand Prix, Montoya claimed that F1 should “park” Verstappen and that it should “add seven points to the licence, eight points to the licence. Whatever you do after, you’re going to be parked. I guarantee you, all the messaging would be different,” after the Red Bull driver’s fierce criticism of the F1 technical regulations.
As in his driving career, Montoya is never shy to offer an opinion, but in responding to the Colombian’s comments, Verstappen labelled Montoya’s demand as “nonsense” and wondered if the two-time Indy 500 winner was saying such things to remain “relevant.”
“I don’t know what his problem is. I also can’t deal much with someone who talks so much nonsense,” Verstappen told de Telegraaf.
“I just don’t understand why people like that get paid by Formula 1 management, because he sometimes works for them.
“You wouldn’t want someone like that in the paddock, spouting so much nonsense, would you?
“I think it’s a case of: ‘If I say something different from everyone else, then I’m relevant.’
“It doesn’t bother me that much; it’s his problem. I live my life and don’t let it affect me.”
