Mick Schumacher has been named the 2026 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year following his performance in this year’s edition of the iconic race.
Schumacher joined the IndyCar grid this season with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing after spending the last few years competing in endurance racing.
The former Haas F1 driver was one of four rookies in the Indy 500 field, alongside Dennis Hauger, Caio Collet and Jacob Abel.
Schumacher started the race from 27th on the grid, the highest starting position among the rookies, although Collet had originally qualified 10th before being relegated to the back of the field due to a technical infringement.
During the race, Schumacher steadily climbed through the order while avoiding trouble to successfully reach the chequered flag.
His performance earned him IndyCar’s Rookie of the Year award for the event, along with an additional $50,000 on top of his race earnings of $218,800.
