
WATCH: Fernando Alonso rolls his Toyota twice in big Dakar Rally crash
Double Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso suffered a big crash on the 10th stage of the Dakar Rally as he rolled his Toyota twice.The Spaniard lost control of his Toyota Hilux while driving over a sand dune and subsequently flipped into a double barrel roll before landing back on its wheels.Both Alonso and his co-driver Marc Coma were unhurt in the incident, and Alonso even proceeded to immediately drive away from the scene despite losing his windscreen.

Goncalves has died competing at Dakar Rally
Paulo Goncalves has passed away while competing at the Dakar Rally.The 40-year-old, competing for Hero MotoSports Team Rally in the motorcycle class, suffered a fall during Stage 7 heading from Riyadh to Wadi Al Dawasir and went into cardiac arrest.A medical helicopter was immediately dispatched to Goncalves which flew him to Layla Hospital where the Portuguese rider was pronounced dead.

Stage 12 cancelled for bikes and quads at Dakar rally
The special stage 12 route has been canned for bikes and quads over safety concerns at the 2018 Dakar rally but trucks and cars will continue as planned. The Fiambala – Chilecito – San Juan special stage was initially set for redrafts for bikes and quads classes in preparation for stage 12 but after a consultation of the riders at Fimabala’s bivonac the special stage has been cancelled by race direction.

Sainz takes back-to-back stage wins to lead Dakar
Carlos Sainz has taken the overall lead of the 2018 Dakar rally thanks to back-to-back stage wins coupled with Peugeot team-mate Stephane Peterhansel’s lengthy stop with a broken left-rear suspension.

Peterhansel regains Dakar lead, Loeb retires
Stephane Peterhansel has returned to the top of the leaderboard at the 2018 Dakar Rally with victory on stage five as former leader Sebastien Loeb is forced out of the event. Defending Dakar winner Peterhansel looks a firm favourite to clinch the 2018 victory after seeing his Peugeot team-mates hit trouble on the San Juan de Marcona – Arequipa stage which claimed Loeb from the race while Carlos Sainz dropped to fourth overall after stopping with a technical issue in the opening stretch.

Al-Attiyah leads opening day of Dakar, Loeb hits trouble
Two-time Dakar Rally winner Nasser Al-Attiyah has set the early pace on the short opening stage to the 2018 edition of the iconic endurance event as he heads up a Toyota 1-2, while brake trouble saw Sebastien Loeb tumble down the order. Al-Attiyah completed the opening stage from Lima to Pisco in Peru in 21m51s to open up an early 25-second advantage over Toyota team-mate Bernhard ten Brinke with Borgward’s Nicolas Fuchs in third 34 seconds off the leader.
